Custom Branded Claw Machine Rentals: How to Turn Prize Games into Event Marketing

The lines our machines drew at two recent Bay Area festivals.
We have already written about why branded claw machines outperform passive booths. Dwell time, crowds, prizes people actually keep. If you want the case for the machine itself, start there. This post is the other half: once you have a custom branded claw machine rental at your event, what do you actually do with it?
Because here is the thing most people miss. The machine is not just a game you park in a corner. It is a prize engine you control, and with a little creativity it can drive foot traffic, sell merch, capture leads, and give your whole event a shared currency. These are the plays we have run with real clients, plus a few we think more brands should try.
Think in Tokens, Not Plays
Every idea in this post builds on one concept: the token. Our event machines can run on physical tokens, which means a play is no longer something people just walk up and take. It is something they earn. And the moment a play has to be earned, you get to decide what earns it.
That flips the machine from an attraction into an experiential marketing engine. Visit a sponsor booth, get a token. Buy a shirt, get a token. Sign up for the mailing list, get a token. Whatever behavior matters most to your event, the token makes it worth doing, and the claw machine makes the reward feel like a game instead of a transaction.
Hide Tokens in Capsules for a Scavenger Hunt

Drop a token inside a small capsule, and suddenly you can hide plays anywhere. Scatter capsules across the venue, tuck them into sponsor booths, tape them under a few chairs, hand a stash to vendors at the far end of the festival where foot traffic dies down. Then let people know the hunt is on.
This is one of the best tricks we know for spreading a crowd across an entire event. The claw machine becomes the finish line, but the hunt pulls people through every corner you want them to see. Sponsors love it because capsules hidden at their booths guarantee visitors. Organizers love it because the far corners of the venue finally get traffic.
You can tune the difficulty however you like. Post clues on social media throughout the day to spike engagement. Release capsules in waves so the hunt resets every few hours. Or keep it simple and let the colorful capsules do the work, because people who find one by accident get the best surprise of their day.
Turn Merch into a Flywheel
Here is a strategy that pays for itself: give a token with every merch purchase. Buy a shirt, earn a play. It is a small gesture that changes the math at the merch table, because now a purchase comes with a moment of fun attached, and the people wearing your merch are also the people gathered around your machine.

Then close the loop: put the merch inside the machine too. We seal items in clear capsules so they stay clean and grabbable, and the effect on the crowd is immediate. At the Stay in Bloom festival, we loaded a machine with capsules holding exclusive mini jerseys, and watching someone pull one out of the claw drew a bigger reaction than anything at the merch table.
The flywheel writes itself. Someone buys merch, earns a token, plays the machine, and wins more merch. They walk around the event wearing it, someone asks where they got it, and now there is a story attached: I won this out of a claw machine. That story travels further than any banner.
Trade Tokens for Leads
If your event is about pipeline rather than vibes, tokens are the cleanest lead capture mechanic we have seen. Scan a badge, get a token. Drop your email, get a token. Book a demo, get three. People who would walk straight past a clipboard will happily trade contact info for a shot at the claw, because they are getting a real experience in return, not a raffle entry they will forget about by lunch.
The other advantage is measurement. Every token you hand out is a counted interaction, so at the end of the day the math is simple: tokens issued equals leads captured, and you know exactly what each play cost you. Compare that to guessing how many people glanced at your booth, and it is not close. One machine keeping booth traffic steady all day can quietly become the best cost-per-lead line item at the entire show.
Custom Tokens Complete the Experience
One more detail that takes all of this from good to fully immersive: custom tokens. We can source tokens stamped with your logo, your event name, your mascot, whatever fits your brand. It sounds small, but it changes how the whole activation feels. A generic gold coin is arcade change. A token with your branding on it is a piece of the event.
People hold onto them. They end up on desks and in pockets weeks later, a tiny branded souvenir that outlasts the event itself. Some attendees will keep one as a memento instead of spending it, which might be the only marketing giveaway we know of that people deliberately choose not to redeem. Pair custom tokens with a fully wrapped machine from our customization options and the entire experience, from the coin in your hand to the prize in the claw, is your brand.
More Playbooks Worth Using
A few more ideas we have run with great success:
- The golden capsule. Seed a handful of capsules with a grand prize: VIP upgrades, a meet and greet, a big gift card. Word spreads fast, and every play carries a little extra suspense.
- Color-coded prize tiers. Different capsule colors mean different prize levels. Players start aiming for specific colors, which turns casual grabs into strategy and keeps people playing longer.
- Post to play. Share a story tagging the event or brand, show it at the booth, get a token. Every play now comes with organic social reach attached.
- Team rewards. At team building events, offsites, and company parties, let managers hand out tokens for shoutouts and wins. Recognition plus a claw machine beats another round of applause.
Build Your Token Economy
None of this requires you to figure out logistics. We deliver the machine, brand it, load the capsules, supply the tokens, and handle pickup when it is over. You pick the plays you want to run. Custom branding and custom tokens need lead time, typically 21 to 30 days, so reach out early if you want the fully immersive version.
We work with festivals, brands, and companies throughout San Francisco, the Peninsula, Silicon Valley, and the greater Bay Area. If you saw the lines in the videos up top and want that at your event, you can see more on our festivals page or get in touch directly.
